Kat Temple, DVM, DACVECC

Critical Care Veterinary Specialist

Dr. Kat Temple, Criticalist at CCVS Meadowbrook

Dr. Temple was born and raised in Miami, Fl and is a true Miami Hurricane through and through. She graduated from the University of Miami in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and Literature, after which she completed a post-baccalaureate certificate. In 2015, Dr. Temple completed veterinary school at the University of Florida, then spent a year completing a small animal surgery and internal medicine internship at Coral Spring Animal Hospital in South Florida. She then travelled back to Gainesville in 2017 where she completed a 3 year Emergency and Critical Care residency at the University of Florida. While there, she became skilled in mechanical ventilation, hemodialysis, and fell in love with transfusion medicine. In 2020, she became a Diplomate of Emergency and Critical Care. From 2020 until 2023, she joined a hospital in Rochester, NY where she helped cultivate a positive culture and supported the ICU team to improve patient care. She is very excited to move back to sunny Florida with her husband, daughter, one dog and four cats. In her free time, Dr. Temple enjoys scuba diving, reading and sampling local breweries.

failure, and suspected pulmonary thromboembolism utilizing a Puritan Bennet 980 machine.


Intermittent hemodialysis
Proficient in placement and maintenance of a hemodialysis catheter and performing intermittent
hemodialysis for acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and toxicities utilizing a Gambro Phoenix
machine.

Therapeutic plasma exchange
Skilled at performing TPE for toxicities with small volume distribution using a PRISMAFLEX machine.


Transfusion medicine
Special area of interest. Eager to educate others on this topic including students, technicians and other
veterinarians; comfortable performing all transfusions (blood, plasma, albumin)


Coagulopathies
Special area of interest. Eager to educate others on this topic
Comfortable at performing and interpreting thromboelastography (TEG)
